Patio Furniture Covers: ( Don't Clean It Cover It)

By: LoLo5

Are you constantly cleaning your patio and outdoor furniture? I know I was, every week or two. That is until I wised up and purchased some patio covers. It's very frustrating to have to clean it every time you go to use. If you want to have a patio party for all your friends or just serve that afternoon glass of tea out on the deck or patio. You have to wash the table just to set down with family or friends for an afternoon snack.

Even worse than the dirt and bugs, and grime, that collects on your table and chairs and cushions is the damage that the sun and rain can do to your furniture. The sun can be really harsh on your chair cushion by fading and rotting the fabric. You spend a lot of money to buy that perfect patio set and you want to use it for several years.

After you spend so much money for your patio and garden furniture it just makes sense to invest a little more to buy patio furniture covers to protect your investment. If you have invested in teak or wrought iron patio furniture then you have made quite an investment as you well know. They can be very expensive and you do not want to have to replace them every few years.

You'll find that patio furniture covers are quick and easy to use. Most of these covers have zippers and will close in and fit very closely to your furniture. These covers waterproof and most have some insulation to help protect from ice and snow. Choosing the right patio furniture covers is very important. Be sure and some that are made well so they will hold up through the life of your furniture. With a good quality cover your furniture and covers should serve you well for years to come.

Five Quick Cleaning Tips For Busy Moms

Author: Jennifer M. Knox

You know how it goes....you have every intention of getting some cleaning accomplished during the day, only to find that by the time the kids are in bed, your house is no cleaner than when you woke up! How does time get away from us?

Here ar
e five quick cleaning tips that any busy mom (or dad!) can incorporate into their day to clean their home a little bit each day.

1. Let the cleaning products do the work by pre-treating.

Instead of trying to speed up the cleaning process by quickly spraying a cleaning product and scrubbing away, spray a generous amount of cleaner onto the surface (tubs, shower walls, countertops, toilet seats) and walk away for five minutes while the cleaning product does the work. Most products work best when allowed to penetrate the stain and break down the grime and surface dirt. Take those five minutes to throw a load of laundry in the washer, change a diaper or wash some baby bottles. At the end of those five minutes, wipe the surface clean with paper towels and admire your work! You just completed two tasks in the time it takes to complete one!

2. Chunk like projects together.

As long as you have that bottle of glass cleaner and roll of paper towels in your hands, why not do all of the mirrors in the house one after the other. By not switching between cleaning products and cleaning tasks, you will actually save time because you will already have all of the necessary tools at your disposal. Switching between tasks, even in the same room, can sometimes take longer than simply completing the same task in each room in quick succession. Read More

Some of these claims work and others don't. It's hard to know which of these "Old Wives Tales" to believe. It just takes trial and error to check them out. Here are a few that have been proven to work.

Eggshells: Eggshells are a great source of calcium which is great for your tomato plants. Without calcium they will develop blossom-end rot. All you have to do is sprinkle the crushed shells on soil around your plants.

Milk: Milk can be a great fungicide for problems like powdery mildew. This is easily detected, there will be a white powder on the leaves. A mixture of milk and water sprayed on your vegetables and fruits can work just as well as chemical sprays.

Hot Peppers: Hot peppers can be used as an insect repellent for you plants when made into a spray. The ing
redient that burns you mouth when you eat it (capsaicin) is the ingredient that kills the harmful insects.

Black Pepper: Sprinkling black pepper on the soil around your plants is a great way to keep tabby cats away.

Can Releasing Earthworms and Ladybugs Improve Your Garden

By: LoLo5

Tip # 2
Do you need to buy imported Lady Beetles (ladybugs) from a store to add to your garden?
While lady beetles do consume many harmful pests such as aphids, the ones you can buy at your garden centers have been hibernating. They probably won't stay around long enough to be very beneficial to your garden. Once they wake up their natural instinct is to fly away. Most likely you will have some ladybugs (Lady beetles) visit your garden any way. One of the most helpful visitors you can have in your garden are earthworms. They perform a variety of good deeds to help your soil and your plants. They aerate the soil, digest organic matter, and produce great nutrients for the plants roots. If you have healthy soil there is no need to run to the garden center to buy some of these little guest, chances are these worms are already making themselves at home. If your soil is not so healthy try adding a little aged manure or compost to you garden and they'll come to visit on their own.

Tips For A More Bountiful Garden

By: LoLo5

It's that time! Time you're looking forward to the taste of all the wonderful vegetables from your garden. Wow I know I am! I thought I would do a series of gardening tips to help you grow a lush vegetable garden this year. You don't need a lot of chemicals, just the right information and a little elbow grease.

Tip # 1.
How Often Should You Weed Your Garden.
Weeds not only make your garden look untidy and uncared for but they also rob your vegetables of water and necessary nutrients, so be sure and pull them when you see them. This is especially important in the early stages of growth in your garden. Studies show that keeping your garden weed-free for the first four to six weeks can have a significant impact on the productivity of your plants. Preventing weeds from returning is not that difficult if you put down three to six inches of coarse mulch. A study by the Ohio State University showed that shredded newspaper suppressed the weeds and increased the yield of tomato plants.

It is always a very pleasant sight to view a well kept vegetable garden from your deck or patio.
