Texture In The Home

Texture plays a dominate roll in the home that is often missed and overlooked. From your floors to accessories, it is important to stay mindful of the texture combination's as they are from the very fabric that are home is woven.

Every single object in your home has a texture. The fabric on your sofa may be smooth and plush while your travertine kitchen floor is cold and hard. These textures are the make up of the feeling your home exudes. Is your home warm and inviting with soft textures or minimalistic with sleek surfaces?

When designing a room, one texture is likely to dominate over all others. Most often, the predominate featured texture in a room is the largest clear area in the room – the floor. Walls, too, can play an enormous part, but are better left painted matte so to create a sophisticated, neutral backdrop for artwork, furniture and accessories.

Thus, your floor should be your starting point for the room design and is really worth spending the time and effort (but not necessarily the money) on getting it right before you rush into buying more expensive items.
